When one talks about blocking and Instagram, it's usually something way different. But Rohto's Insta-ready sunscreen is changing the conversation. The Japanese CPG company designed their new limited edition product to be photographed, printing all on-pack copy in reverse so that beauty bloggers and aspiring influencers can snap the perfect selfie with the product. Just imagine entirely legible product in all of that UGC! You clever brand, you! To top it off, the product itself contains pearlescent ingredients that make users' skin glow – exactly the kind of product to show off with a selfie. Given that Asia leads the world in selfie-taking (4 out of 10 top ‘selfiest' cities are in Asia), the brand's catering to consumers not just using the product for its primary function – in this case, sun protection - but also their quest to build their personal brand and aesthetic. YouTube Kids

Damn, YouTube. Back at it again with the inappropriate content for kids... The video sharing platform was heavily criticized (again) last week for its handling of problematic content targeted to children. No, not Baby Shark... think more along the lines of kids shows chillingly spliced with encouragements to self-harm. Free Hess, a blogger and pediatrician from Florida, claims to have seen an video featuring popular Nintendo game Splatoon, where a man appeared on the screen during and offered instructions on how to commit suicide. YouTube gave a written statement saying that as a company they work to ensure content is “not used to encourage dangerous behavior” and stresses they have strict policies about videos promoting self-harm... yet, more sightings are reported every day. Facebook privacy

Remember when everyone on Facebook was so worried that Mark Zuckerberg owned the rights to their personal photos, that they shared status updates saying they 'opted out'? Well, apparently, we forgot about that real fast. As a coming of age moment, tweenage kids are googling themselves for the first time (who wouldn't?), and making the shocking realization that their whole lives have been documented online without them even knowing. It sounds like a Gen Z Truman Show, but with parents, grandparents and even schools sharing private moments and things like photos or achievements. What was once tucked away inside the pages of scrapbooks and photo albums is now accessible to anyone with internet access. And, it seems, we've been so worried about what kids are doing online, we didn't stop to think about ourselves.
